Abstract

In recent years a trend of the singularly focused illness-based models of medicine are becoming replaced by more holistic wellness-based models. Integrative health and medicine in particular strive to ensure wellness-based approaches. This has led to increasing focus on patient-centered care strategies, greater focus on interdisciplinary and inter-specialty collaboration between health providers working together to treat patients, and increasing reliance on health care teams. The final chapter explores the challenges presented for future public health professionals. The lack of standard education for some modalities of CAM will be discussed, and evidence based practices will be presented. Provisions of Affordable Care Act supporting integrative medicine concepts will be explored. Finally, imperatives for the future of integrative health services will be explored.
