Abstract

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and Tourette syndrome (TS) are both neurodevelopmental disorders that begin in the childhood and considered chronic conditions. ASD and TS are more frequently associated than expected by chance. This epidemiological association reflects shared common futures in terms of clinical symptoms and phenomenology (movement disorders associated) and implies probably a common neurobiological background. This chapter tries to elucidate the relationship between these two conditions exploring the burden of comorbid association and clinical issues encountered in the diagnosis and the evaluation of patients. Moreover, recent advance in genetics and putative common neurobiological factors are considered. Finally, treatment options and future therapeutic approach are described.
