Abstract
Contrasting those who had their adolescence in the 21st century, this chapter shows that the collective experience of the youngest cohort is substantially more positive than those in the two older cohort groups studied. Many participants still felt that coming out was an important milestone in their social lives, but it was frequently experienced as an enjoyable event because they found friends to be both supportive and inclusive. Participants maintained less heterosexism than the older men and, whereas the older participants viewed ‘the city’ as an important location, there were similar experiences between participants in the city and the countryside.
