Abstract
This chapter examines the psychosocial needs of the burn-injured patient during each phase of recovery (intensive and acute care, and rehabilitation). Recommendations for how and when to screen for common psychiatric issues and suggestions for when to intervene are provided. Aftercare begins at the time of injury and each phase of burn recovery has the ultimate goal of returning the patient as close as possible to a pre-injury way of life. The multidisciplinary team, in partnership with advocacy organizations, such as the Phoenix Society can work together to help a patient and family not just survive, but thrive following their injury.
