Abstract

In this chapter, the advantages of a “drag and drop” statistical analyzing software, like the IBM SPSS Modeler, compared to a “classical” scripting-based language are discussed, and the usage of such data mining software is motivated.

Furthermore, the concept of the book as well as its structure is outlined. It is explained where the solutions, streams, and datasets are provided and how they can be accessed and used with the IBM SPSS Modeler. The template concept used in the book, which offers the reader easy access to pre-defined streams, is described. The chapter finishes by enlarging upon the process of building a statistical model.
