Abstract

Revision stapes surgery requires intense patient counseling about possible outcome and potential hazards due to the surgery, and written consent is needed. Most frequent causes of the postoperative hearing loss and vertigo are displacement of the piston, incus necrosis, immobilization of the ossicular chain, obliteration of the oval window, too long piston, perilymph fistula, and fibrous tissue in the niche. Precise audiological workup and documentation help in the evaluation of the hearing outcome.
