Abstract
Most of the surveys described in this book cover either the whole sky, or at least a significant fraction of it. Sometimes, however, astronomers can learn a great deal about a particular phenomenon by focussing their attention on a small patch of sky, so long as it contains a large enough number of relevant objects to make it representative.
