Abstract

The importance of testing the performance of questions in different contexts is critical. This chapter reports on an example of a question evaluation and testing process undertaken jointly by the Washington Group (WG) and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission of the Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP). The testing involved six Asian-Pacific countries and included two phases. The first phase comprised training in and conducting of a series of cognitive testing interviews of the WG Extended Set of questions. This was followed up by a small sample survey in two or three small areas in each country for the field testing of the questions. The chapter focuses on the process of training and testing and the benefits for the countries involved, rather than the actual testing results, which are reported in a separate chapter in this volume.
