The Complexity of the Non-invasive Cardiac Imaging Process

Quality Evaluation in Non-Invasive Cardiovascular Imaging

Abstract

The noninvasive cardiac imaging clinical processes are complex secondary to the numerous providers and staff involved from initial patient evaluation through to test completion and communication of results. Factors which additionally impact the clinical processes include appropriate use criteria, utilization management, test selection, “cost” of the test, potential risk and communication of the results with implications for next diagnostic and/or therapeutic steps. The importance of guideline development and clinical implementation of decision support algorithms to simplify the process in the future will be necessary.
