Abstract
Fluids comprise liquids and gases and have particular physical properties that the surgeon can exploit. There are a few physical laws, which are worth understanding and committing to memory, to allow you to fully understand the use of these fluids. The commonest use of a fluid is a balanced salt solution in water (BSS) as an infusion into the eye maintaining the globe volume. However the BSS must flow in tubing and within the eye, which creates physical conditions on the fluid.
