Abstract
Of all the components to the Mediterranean diet, red wine is arguably one of the most provocative and perhaps most investigated for its health benefit. Hypercholesterolemia, arterial hypertension, nicotine abuse, diabetes mellitus, and genetic predisposition are all major risk factors for cardiovascular disease (CVD).
