Abstract
Thus far, we have confined our discussion to space telescopes capable of detecting visible and infrared sources. But the hottest and most violent events in the cosmos produce the highest energy EM radiation of all; gamma rays. These rays are deadly to all known life forms but, as we shall see, their study has unveiled a high energy cosmos that adds a whole new dimension to our understanding of the universe and how fortunate we are to live in a relatively safe place far from any gamma ray sources.
