Abstract
The Rizzoli Orthopaedic Institute, considered to be one of the oldest orthopedic centers in the world, this year celebrates 120 years of service. The reason why this book is introduced with a study about the historical roots of elbow disease at Rizzoli is because most of its authors started their careers in orthopedics at this institute. Besides that, it is very interesting to see how knowledge evolved over more than 100 years in Bologna from its early pioneers to the avant-garde orthopedic surgery throughout the world, especially elbow surgery, which had been neglected for decades.
