Abstract
Pediatric cholecystitis is increasing in incidence, perhaps partly due to an increase in obesity rates. Focused history and physical examination, along with ultrasound and blood tests, are used to identify most surgical candidates requiring cholecystectomy. Pediatric laparoscopic cholecystectomy is a safe and typically straightforward operation requiring a limited hospital stay. Teamwork with pediatric specialists is imperative in the treatment of children with complicated cholecystitis or chronic hemolytic disease.
