Abstract
Although reducible inguinal and umbilical hernias are common in infants and children, other types of hernias are rare. These unusual hernias include atypical presentations of inguinal hernias (Littre’s and Amyand’s), non-obstructive incarcerated hernias (Richter’s), and hernias through other fascial defects (femoral, Spigelian, lumbar, epigastric, laparoscopic trocar site, and traumatic). These are sufficiently uncommon that the literature is limited to case reports and small series. Management is therefore based on understanding of the anatomy, surgical principles, and extrapolation from the adult literature.
