Abstract

Injury is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in children. When prevention fails, adequate resuscitation is critical to restoring normal physiology and preventing secondary injury. Due to unique aspects of physiology and anatomy in children, management of acute trauma significantly differs from that of adults. Although the primary approach of ABCDE remains the same, the pediatric trauma provider must be aware of the nuances in treating children in order to provide the best care through evidence-based medicine.
