Abstract
Primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) is increasingly being diagnosed in an “asymptomatic” stage because of the increased utilization of serum multi-analysis; however, research now shows that this condition is often not in fact asymptomatic. Nephrolithiasis, osteoporosis, and neuropsychiatric symptoms have all been reported to be reversed following parathyroidectomy. Without treatment, patients report decreased quality of life and are at risk for conditions involving many organ systems including cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, genitourinary, and psychiatric.
