Abstract
The area overlaps the Moldavian Platform. The dominant deposits in the catchment belong to Bassarabian. Bassarabian sediments are mainly composed of an alternation of marls, sands, clays, with a significant thickness of about 1000 m, especially in the northern part of Cucuteni village and west of Baiceni village. The general pitch of the strata is on NNW-SSE direction, which lends the relief a characteristic morphology with extended structural surfaces, and front of cuestas. The superficial deposits belong to the Quaternary and are present as thick loess deposits. As a consequence of the geological deposits, soil erosion processes are very frequent in the eastern part of the country.
