Abstract

The transformation of the neural plate into the neural tube is known as neurulation. During this process, the bilateral outer borders of the neural plate fuse together point-to-point along the median line, forming the roof plate. The neural crest population is released into the mesenchyme at the same time, and the skin also fuses, covering the whole.
