Abstract
My primary intention in writing this book is to increase awareness of South African YA fiction in Southern Africa and abroad, and to make this literature more visible, highlighting both its educational and literary value. The book provides an analysis of South African English-language YA fiction from the years when apartheid began to break down in the 1980s, through the period of transition in the 1990s to a democratic society and beyond to the present day. The introduction to the study provides background information, delimits the scope of the study, and gives a breakdown of the content of each chapter.
