Abstract

The thyroid gland can be faintly visible during routine SPECT MPI, typically seen at the top of the imaging field-of-view. Ectopically located thyroid tissue can present a pitfall during image interpretation. Free 99mTc pertechnetate normally localizes to the thyroid gland, salivary glands, and stomach wall; enhanced visualization of these tissues should prompt investigation of the purity of the administered radiopharmaceutical.
