Abstract
The Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) reflects a more dynamic, multi-disciplinary, decentralized and integrated approach to managing coastal areas and small islands. Meanwhile science-based modelling provides various tools for identifying, describing, as well as constructing policy intervention on managing dynamic environments such as coastal environment. Despite the advantages and disadvantages of modeling in addressing the dynamic complexities of coastal environments, we need to integrate some tools of science-based modelling to assist policy makers and managers to figure out the environmental behaviors as well as to set up policy scenarios for managing coastal areas. Further research and applications are needed to optimize the capabilities of modeling and simulation tools in supporting the ICZM.
