Abstract
Older adult education is a concept hitherto not known within the Ugandan adult and non-formal education vocabulary. This is because Adult and Non-formal Education includes all persons considered an adult including children who play the role of adults in Uganda. Older persons are also free to join any educational programmes in Uganda. The population of Uganda is generally young and the greatest number of older persons are living in rural areas and they are declining as the proportion of younger people increases, thus presenting a challenge to investment in older adult education. However, There is a growing concern for older persons because they are playing an increasing role in the care of grandchildren and also suffering from severe poverty. As a result, there are policies supporting older persons. There is need for more research in the area of older adult education in Uganda, the development of suitable educational facilities for the education of older persons and funding from government to implement educational programmes that are targeted at them.
