Abstract

One of the fundamental elements of e-navigation will be a data communication network based on the maritime radio communication infrastructure. The article presents the identified needs of the future maritime users of e-navigation, the current capabilities for achieving these needs within the GMDSS and discusses correlated key elements of the modernization of the GMDSS.
