Abstract
The possibility of finding intelligent life on other worlds has fascinated mankind for centuries. With the introduction of the telescope in the seventeenth century, the hypothesis became more concrete, especially in the realms of our own solar system. With the telescope, it was possible to see that the planets were not merely points of light, under magnification they actually showed disks. Observers realised rather soon that Venus and Mars were the most interesting ones. Could they or any other place in our solar system harbour life?
