Abstract
This chapter summarizes the main findings and the knowledge emerged from the research and implementation of the Age-Friendly Cities (AFC) Program in three cities of Argentine Republic. The results of these studies show that the size of the cities, their level of human, economic and social developments, and the urban design of each city are variables that determine the differing quality of life of elderly people and their access to full social inclusion. Furthermore, the mentioned three factors present different patterns of problems or friendliness observed by the neighbors. Here, the involvement of NGOs, in this case ISALUD University, is a very good way to overcome obstacles derived from the prevalent governance style in many Latin America countries, like the discontinuity in the public policies or the lack of transparency or responsiveness from government agencies. Finally, Argentina case shows that AFC Program offers an excellent opportunity to empower the voluntary organizations of older persons in each city.
