Abstract

The Bichitra site serves two major functions: to provide ready access to the primary material, and to add value through transcripts, a hyperbibliography and analytic programmes. It has to purvey many different types of files through a site apparatus in three languages. It must meet the needs of casual browsers as well as focused scholars. Beginning with the interface design, there is an account of the data feed strategy; server model, scripting and coding; and other means of organizing and retrieving the material, both server side and client side. Data feed is carried out through a set of back-up files specific to the website, linking up with the 32 spreadsheets in which the raw data is organized. Various other programs and strategies have been employed for swift, user-friendly retrieval, as well as an adaptable interface for viewing the results on various kinds of terminals and devices.

Notes

  1. 1.

HTTP defines how messages are formatted and transmitted, and what actions Web servers and browsers should take in response to various commands. For example, when you enter http://bichitra.jdvu.ac.in/ in your browser, this actually sends an HTTP command to the Web server directing it to fetch and transmit the requested Web page.
