Renal Pelvis, Ureter, and Urethra

  • Chapter
Essentials of Anatomic Pathology

Abstract

This chapter reviews the clinical, macroscopic, and microscopic features, as well as the differential diagnosis of the most common lesions and tumors seen in routine surgical pathology practice of the renal pelvis, the ureter, and the urethra. Most of these lesions are similar to those of the urinary bladder. The current histologic classification of tumors and the updated 2010 TNM staging system are also included. Applicable ancillary testing modalities including immunohistochemistry and other molecular findings are mentioned for each entity.
