Abstract

The chapter discusses the common problems that a pathologist pertaining to the osseous tissues of the musculoskeletal system. The topics include trauma, infections, and metabolic and genetic diseases as well as neoplasms. The emphasis is on the differential diagnosis and methods of reaching the correct diagnosis. Ancillary studies are discussed where they are pertinent. The staging systems used by most specialized musculoskeletal surgeons and oncologists (the Enneking or MSTS) and the more familiar AJCC system (common to most other organs) are both described.
