Abstract
This chapter explores health care priorities and barriers to health care delivery in countries in transition. The goal is to provide a frame of reference for the organization of health care in different social, economic, and political contexts.
We consider countries in transition those destabilized by war or internal conflicts that sap most resources and are responsible of physical and emotional casualties, and of social disruption. Current examples include Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Gaza, and Sudan. We will focus on three issues including the benefits of health care in countries in transition, the recent advances in cancer care, and their relevance in countries in transition.
