Abstract

This chapter describes an encounter between an emergency department provider and a patient with Mongolian spots raising concerns for physical abuse. It addresses the interactions that take place between the physician and the patient’s family, misconceptions, and core competency, which can aid clinicians in delivering the best possible care.
