Abstract

Disparities in health care among all patient populations have been well described in literature; many of these disparities are also present in pediatric populations. While many disparities in the pediatric population mimic those experienced by adults, others are unique to pediatric emergency medicine. The increase of pediatric emergency departments and the development of pediatric emergency medicine as a subspecialty have allowed more in-depth evaluation of disparities in this population. The unique problems and their ramifications on the pediatric population call for creative solutions.
