Abstract
The objective of this research was to investigate, by means of direct knowledge and analysis of historical sources, the running and mechanisms, including hydraulic, of the windmill on the Orbetello lagoon. Currently, evidence indicates that this particular architectural heritage was just one of nine historic mills that no longer perform their original function. Also, the conformation and characteristics of the lagoon are no longer the same as those of the period in which the mills arose.
