Abstract

In this section we look into the different aspects of an ultrasound system and develop a basic understanding to perform an optimal ultrasound scan. Core knowledge of the knobology and the different functions will help you to tackle even the most challenging situations. You will be able to understand the different modes of diagnostic ultrasound in any ultrasound system on the market. This will also help you to understand what exactly happens when you adjust or manipulate different buttons and knobs on a typical ultrasound imaging device.

You should be able to obtain diagnostic quality or even enhance your scanning ability and troubleshoot when needed. You should be able to save and store ultrasound images and video loops as well as annotate and perform simple ultrasound measurements. You will also become familiar with the common types of ultrasound transducers used at the point of care and how to select a particular transducer for a specific ultrasound exam or protocol. You will be able to understand transducer orientation and ultrasound image orientation for general use. You will become savvy as to how to go about purchasing an ultrasound system for your scope of practice and the general pros and cons with different system types available commercially. Lastly you will learn the importance of taking good care of the ultrasound equipment and to clean and disinfect the transducers as per manufacturer recommendation to prevent damage to the transducer.
