Abstract
Omentectomy refers to the surgical removal of the omentum. It is usually performed in conditions of malignancies that are likely to transperitoneal metastasis. Omentectomy is a part of standard procedure during surgery for gastrointestinal and genitourinary malignancies like gastric cancer and ovarian cancer. It is a relatively safe procedure once you understand the anatomy and the avascular plane. It is important to be aware of the relationships with adjacent organs that are attached to the omentum to avoid injuries, such as colon, spleen, pancreas, stomach and duodenum. Finding avascular plane by proper traction is the key technique to perform safe omentectomy.
