Abstract
The surgical approach to craniopharyngioma (CP) treatment is complex. It is crucial to objectively define the advantages and limitations of each surgical option in terms of outcomes and risk of complications. The indications for and the success of transsphenoidal endoscopic approaches continue to expand, allowing for safe and efficient for tumor resection. Advancements in pre- and intraoperative imaging, microscopy, endoscopy, and refinements in medical management have all helped to improve patient outcomes for those harboring CPs. As the number and complexity of surgical tools increase, there is an increased need for attention to and consideration of the surgical approach itself. Not all approaches are appropriate for every CP, and the nuances of each individual case should guide the operative strategy.
