Experimental Overview and Data Reduction

The experiments were performed at the Research Center for Nuclear Physics (RCNP), Osaka University, Japan. Detailed experimental description of the α,α ) and (d,d ) reactions used to study isoscalar giant resonances in nuclei are presented in this chapter. The data reduction process needed to obtain the background-free, accurately-calibrated, excitation energy spectra are discussed in detail. The chapter concludes with the description of the procedure for extracting the experimental cross-section from these excitation spectra.
