Part of the book series: The Patrick Moore Practical Astronomy Series ((PATRICKMOORE))

Abstract

This chapter discusses the differences between observatories that are distant—and therefore are similar to land-based space probes—and observatories that are local to the amateur astronomer—and therefore are accessible for quick repair/maintenance/operation, but are operated remotely. The components that make up a remotely operated observatory are discussed and explained in detail.
