Abstract
Although the majority of wartime trauma involves the limbs, it is injuries to the head, torso and junctional haemorrhage from the neck, axilla or groin that are the most life threatening. As haemorrhage is the most common cause of preventable death on the battlefield, it is of considerable research interest (see Chap. 19, Sect. 19.1)
