Abstract

The patient is a 28-year-old male who sustained an open right proximal tibia and fibula fracture, as a result of a motorcycle accident, which was treated with irrigation and debridement (I + D) as well as an acute open reduction internal fixation on July 13, 2007. He was transferred to the plastic surgery service at my hospital for treatment of a “chronic wound with exposed hardware,” which had been treated with repeated operative debridements and placement of a wound VAC on August 24, 2007, a little over a month or so after his initial injury.
