Abstract

Ultrasonography has become a high-end diagnostic imaging modality and represents the method of choice in the investigation of the pediatric pelvis. In this chapter, we review the pediatric female pelvis including scanning techniques and normal sonographic appearance of the uterus and ovaries and the specific imaging features at different ages. Pathological conditions are discussed including ambiguous genitalia, uterine malformations, puberty disorders, pelvic masses, ovarian torsion, ovarian cysts, and ovarian neoplasms. We will then review the pediatric urinary bladder using scanning techniques, normal sonographic anatomy, and the different bladder abnormalities including congenital, inflammatory, neuropathic, neoplastic, and posttraumatic conditions.
