Abstract

I think when they dig up our civilization in 10,000 years, whatever “they” are will really be impressed that we valued visiting each other enough to create the jet plane. Traveling at almost the speed of sound (or even faster), this thing can take us anywhere on Earth and, on the flight from New York to Jo’burg, do it without refueling in less than a day. The jet plane is one of the most amazing creations of the twentieth century, but most of us take it for granted. The Heinkel 178 was the first.
