Abstract
The Kramers-Kronig relations establish a fundamental relationship between the dispersions of the real and imaginary parts of the dielectric function. This way refraction of light and energy dissipation appear to be interconnected phenomena. Kramers-Kronig relations are derived for both insulators and electrical conductors making use of the theory of generalized functions. Simple sum rules are derived, too.
