Abstract
The topic of thin film optics/thin film optical spectroscopy can be tackled as a particular case of a broader class of phenomena, concerned with the interaction of electromagnetic irradiation with matter. A grammar description of this class of phenomena requires detailed analysis of the specific effects arising from material properties, as well as from the particular sample geometry. The analysis may be performed on both classical and quantum mechanical levels of description.
