Abstract

Transverse vibrations of a rod or a straight strip (that is to say a rigid body, straight, thread-like, where the changes in shape can be expressed by bent lines) are different, according to whether one or two ends are fixed (in a vise or in a wall), or supported (by a motionless body), or free. Here are the possible cases in which there is a difference in the changes in shape or the ratios of the sounds on which it depends:
