Abstract

Electron motion in matter occurs on a temporal scale of a few hundreds of attoseconds, a time scale shorter then an optical period of the visible light. Attosecond science is nowadays a well-established research field and several techniques based on the use of attosecond pulses have been developed to investigate and control the electron dynamics initiated by photo-ionization in atoms, molecules and condensed matter. In this chapter we will review progress in attosecond technology and in the application of attosecond pulses to the investigation of ultrafast electron processes in molecules.
