Abstract
A series of laboratory modules will be discussed in this chapter, which have been designed to lead the reader through the development phases needed to understand and work with a modern electrical drive. Hence basic voltage/frequency control, current/frequency control are introduced as a prelude to more elaborate drive structures which utilize field-oriented control. In this context a sensored field oriented PM drive and an induction machine drive are (among others) considered. Dual drive operation, where the PM sensored drive acts as a load/torque transducer (which is effectively a dynamometer) for the induction motor provides the reader with the opportunity to explore motor/generator operation.
