Abstract

This chapter provides a compact overview of the underlying theoretical aspects of an electrical drive. The aim being to convey to the reader, with a minimum of mathematics, the key issues which are critical to controlling an electrical drive. In this context a fundamental understanding of AC machines is required in terms of their ability to generate torque.
