Lust for Life or Fear of Non-existence?
Contrasting only the fear of the death experience and the fear of non-existence does not take account of one further important facet of the human condition relative to death, and that is whether the fear of non-existence is motivated by a lust for life or merely by the fear of the nothing. Fear of the nothing and lust for life are two entirely different emotions. Humans might have no real interest in extending the human condition endlessly, might not have truly conceptualized what everlasting life implies, so might, in this respect not be so unsettled. Yet, the thought of non-existence can never be anything but highly unappetizing.
