Abstract
Every time we do not think about ourselves are moments of transcendence. Work, football and love make us reach beyond ourselves and thus make us forget about mortality. Shopping becomes a Kierkegaardian ‘moment’, no matter how much Kierkegaard would have hated that thought. Books, plays and movies have traditionally taken us beyond ourselves. Love of history allows us to partake in god’s perspective, by observing and participating in lives past without possibility of active involvement except as guide for the future. Hells Angels sometimes die for Hells Angels, showing that even in crude and violent environments human beings might move beyond the shackles of individuality and egocentrism. Even Hells Angels may transcend!
